Microsoft Claims That Only Few Xbox Ones Have Drive Issues

Microsoft problems

New Xbox One owners have started posting complaints and reports of problems with the CD drives in the game console. The Microsoft problems of Xbox One range from loud grinding noises from the drive to the drive refusing to play the games in the CD. Microsoft has responded to these complaints, stating to IGN that these Microsoft problems affect only a very small portion of the Xbox One customers.

The Microsoft statement said, “We’re working directly with those affected to get a replacement console to them as soon as possible through our advance exchange program. Rest assured, we are taking care of our customers.” Apart from sending out replacement consoles, Microsoft also offers free game downloads for the affected users. The affected users have the option to choose from Dead Rising 3, Ryse, Forza 5 or Zoo Tycoon. This is a pretty good move and Microsoft expects to make the gamers who are suffering from this issue happy by this move.

With this statement, Microsoft has acknowledged that a few of the initial Xbox One consoles have issues with the Blu-ray disc drives, making them unable to read game discs. The problem occurs from the head of the drive unit. When the users insert a CD into the disc drive, they only hear a clocking or grinding noise, making it unable for the system to read the disc.

Dead Rising 3

The latest reports of the Microsoft Xbox console hardware bring back the memories of the infamous red ring of death issues that affected a large portion of early Xbox 360 units. This issue led to over $1 billion of loss in warranty extensions for the Microsoft Corporation. There are no good reasons to believe that the Xbox One’s CD drive problems are very widespread.

Sony said the previous week that less than 0.4 percent of shipped units to date had hardware problems. Later, the company amended the statement that only less than 1 percent of the shipped consoles were affected by the drive issues. They say that this is within the expected range for a new product introduction and these issues do not fall directly under the Microsoft problems.

Let us hope that Microsoft will come out with a fix for this issue very soon. In the mean time, the affected gamers can download their favorite games from the Microsoft website.
